Spaces are limited so we ask that visits are booked at least 48 hours in advance. The Local Studies Library can be browsed by customers who have booked their visit.
Computers and microform must be pre-booked and documents can be pre-ordered where references are known.
Our help desk staff will show you how to safely handle original documents but they will be observing physical distancing guidelines. Please bring your own supply of pencils and paper. No pens are allowed in the searchrooms. Please note that bags and coats cannot be brought into the searchrooms, but lockers are available, and staff will be on hand to show you where personal items can be securely stored.
Opening Hours – Until further notice the History Centre is open for pre-booked visits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9:30am to 5pm. We are currently closed at the weekend and on Mondays and Thursdays.
Photocopying and other Charges
There are no charges for visiting Wiltshire and Swindon Archives but charges do apply if you want to copy any documents. We will advise on what may be copied and the most suitable method. You are welcome to take photographs with your own camera, provided you ask permission first and pay a standard fee. If you wish to publish documents or make lengthy quotations you should first consult a member of staff.
Free parking is available at the History Centre and details of how to find us along with directional maps are available here.
We look forward to welcoming you
